Your first 90 days of CA articleship are a chance to build dependable working habits: understand a task, preserve its evidence, ask clear questions and improve after review. You do not need to know everything on day one. You do need to work carefully and communicate what you have and have not completed.
The plan below is a suggested discussion framework for candidates exploring PGT & Associates in Ahmedabad. It is not the firm's promised induction schedule, a replacement for ICAI requirements or a guarantee of particular assignments.
Days 1–30: understand the office and the file
Begin with the process around the work. Learn who assigns tasks, who reviews them and how urgent questions should be raised. Before working on a file, identify the entity, period, purpose, source documents and expected deliverable.
Understand confidentiality, authorised access and document-sharing practices.
Learn the file naming and version-control system used by your team.
Prepare a simple task list showing the owner, due date and missing inputs.
Observe how a reviewer connects source documents to a working paper.
Keep a non-confidential learning log of concepts and corrections.
A useful first-month objective is to complete a small task with a clear evidence trail. Accuracy and reviewability matter more than appearing fast while leaving unexplained gaps.
Days 31–60: improve through supervised practice
As assignments permit, focus on explaining your work. A spreadsheet total should be supported by the input source and checks performed. If a difference remains, describe it and the information required to resolve it instead of hiding it in an adjustment.
Use review comments as a learning tool. When a senior corrects a schedule, understand whether the issue concerned data, technique, presentation or judgement. Apply that lesson to the next file.
Self-review arithmetic, dates and references before submitting.
Separate completed checks from open questions.
Summarise progress in a short update rather than forwarding an unexplained file.
Use only authorised tools for client work and data.
Ask for clarification when the task or expected output is unclear.
Days 61–90: connect individual tasks to the bigger picture
Start asking how your work supports the assignment's objective. An organised reconciliation, an evidence index and a concise issue note serve different purposes. Understanding the purpose helps you choose a useful format and avoid collecting information without a reason.
Discuss progress with your reviewer. Identify one technical skill to improve, one repeated error to eliminate and one communication habit to practise. Maintain realistic goals that reflect your current role and available assignments.
Why discuss your learning goals with PGT & Associates?
PGT's public articleship programme emphasises hands-on learning, skill development and guidance from experienced Chartered Accountants and Cost Accountants. Its practice spans audit, taxation, costing, financial management, corporate compliance and advisory. Candidates who value a connection between study and professional work can explain their learning goals in an application.
Ask the firm how supervision, assignment allocation and feedback would operate for your role. Confirm current availability and joining terms; this suggested plan should not be interpreted as an undertaking by PGT to provide a particular rotation or timetable.
Before joining: complete the course-related checks
ICAI's New Scheme FAQ describes two years of practical training commencing after both Intermediate groups and four-week ICITSS are completed. Confirm your applicable scheme, registration process and current requirements through official ICAI resources. Any exceptional or transitional case needs specific verification.
Frequently asked questions
Should I judge progress only by the number of files completed?
No. Consider whether your work is more accurate, your questions are clearer and your reviewer can follow your evidence. Quality of learning matters alongside productive contribution.
Can I use this as my firm's official training policy?
No. It is an educational framework to discuss with the supervisor. Actual assignments and institute requirements determine the training arrangement.
