NCLT e-Inspection and e-Certified Copies: What Litigants Should Prepare

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs, through a PIB release dated 12 August 2026, announced that the National Company Law Tribunal launched e-Inspection and e-Certified Copy Services. The release describes the services as intended to give advocates, litigants and other stakeholders more convenient and faster access to judicial records and certified copies.

For a company-law or insolvency matter handled from Ahmedabad, the development is relevant as a records and case-management step. It does not remove the need to check the relevant bench, registry instructions, filing requirements, order date and the exact procedural route for the document required.

What the official release says

The NCLT said the services form part of a broader digital transformation that includes the revamped NCLT website and the ongoing e-Courts 2.0 initiative. The release also refers to guidelines on registration and listing of cases issued in consultation with the Bar.

The same release discusses case-management measures and reports that 78 resolution plans were approved during April to June 2026, involving approximately ₹5,517.66 crore. That statistic is a national figure reported in the release; it should not be treated as an Ahmedabad-bench outcome.

Practice guide for professionals

For working-paper formats and review checklists on this topic, see the Audit Documentation & CARO 2020 Practical Guide (PDF, ₹299).

A practical document-readiness checklist

• Identify the exact case number, party names, bench and order date before requesting inspection or a certified copy.

• Distinguish between a pleading, annexure, interlocutory application, order, judgment, daily order sheet and final certified copy. The document type affects what you should request and how you will use it.

• Keep a clean index of documents already available in the case file and mark the gaps that matter to the next hearing, appeal, compliance step or board decision.

• Preserve the downloaded file in a controlled folder with the case number, document description, date downloaded and checksum or internal version reference where your organisation uses one.

• Compare a certified or officially issued copy against the version used in internal advice. Record any missing pages, illegible annexures, pagination issues or mismatch in dates.

• Maintain a hearing-readiness note that links each factual proposition to the source document and each requested relief to the procedural stage of the matter.

Why certified copies still matter

A web page, screenshot or informal download may help a team locate a record, but litigation, statutory compliance and corporate decision-making may require a document in the form prescribed by the relevant forum or authority. The e-Certified Copy service is therefore best understood as a route for obtaining an official copy, subject to the Tribunal’s process and any applicable requirements.

The digital route also makes it more important to manage access, naming and version control. A case file shared across directors, insolvency professionals, advocates, finance teams and auditors should make it clear which document is official, which is a working copy and which has been superseded.

Where to verify the current position

Read the official PIB release here: https://www.pib.gov.in/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2298542. Use the NCLT website at https://nclt.gov.in/ for current notices, bench information, orders, registry material and service instructions. Check the relevant bench and registry before relying on a general description of the service.

The launch is a useful administrative development, but it is not a substitute for case-specific procedural advice. Limitation, filing mode, proof of service, certified-copy requirements and appeal strategy should be assessed on the facts and the applicable law.
